I work mostly in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, although I do often combine traditional techniques with digital. I can work in traditional pen and ink and pencil, which is a very quick method and can benefit the client if they need a quick turn around.
Digital artwork is a far more editable format and can produce a more contemporary feel, as well as being almost photo-real.

Line illustrations: Preferable for surgical sequences or instruments where the image must be as clear and uncluttered as possible.
Pencil illustrations: Used in most cases of still life, where gray scale is preferred as no colour differentiation is required. Has limited edit-ability.
Watercolour illustrations: For more fluid illustrations watercolour is best and can bring about a more translucent style, especially for pathology specimens. Best for when colour is needed in the illustration however it is not easily editable.
Digital illustrations: This medium can produce the most photo-real pieces of artwork. Very editable, easily mass produced, and produces the most contemporary pieces of artwork. Perfect for complicated surgeries where you need colour, and excellent for book covers, posters, leaflets, and eye-catching art.
