Description: Illustrate the Posterior surgical approach to the acetabulum

The brief was to create a surgical sequence illustrating the posterior surgical approach to the acetabulum for use on an online educational portal for the Institute of Global Orthopedics and Truamatology.

Images include

  • Skin incision
  • Superficial surgical dissection – fascial incision.
  • Divide the subcutaneous tissues gluteus maximus and iliotibial tract and exposing the short external rotators, piriformis tenodn, gemelli and internal obturator muscle as well as sciatic nerve.
  • Detach priforums and external rotator muscles
  • Detach gluteus maximus, hamstrings, and quadratus femoris
  • Expose posterior wall and column
