Anatomy of an Athlete: Elite Sport, Surgery and Medical Art
Tucked away in a corner of London’s Hunterian Museum, behind intricate anatomical displays and vast specimen collections, Anatomy of an Athlete offers an intriguing glimpse into the relation between medical innovation and high performance sports. The exhibition— born out of collaboration between the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Medical Artists’ Association of Great Britain, in anticipation of the London 2012 Olympic Games—consists of four elegant pieces by Joanna Culley, Emily Evans, Richard Neave and Denise Smith and finally Catherine Sulzmann.
I prepared a 2 minute animation on the shoulder dislocation injury and surgical repair by Professor Lennard Funk, of the Olympian Etienne Stott (who later went on to win gold!).
